Why Backups Matter

A reliable backup is your safety net against a broken deploy, a wrong command, or a compromised site. WolfPanel backs up a site's files together with the MySQL databases bound to it.

Where Backups Are Stored

Backups are written to your own server, under /var/backups/wolfpanel//. WolfPanel does not send them to any cloud storage and does not encrypt them. Because a copy on the same server does not survive a lost disk, download important backups from the panel and keep them somewhere else as well.

Taking a Backup Now

Open a site, go to the Backups tab, and click Back up now. Choose whether the backup should include the site files, the bound databases, or both. WolfPanel first checks the free disk space on the server; if there is not enough, no backup is taken.

Scheduling Automatic Backups

In Backup Settings, turn on automatic backups and choose:

  • **Schedule**: daily or weekly.
  • **Retention**: how many automatic backups to keep. Older automatic backups are deleted; manual and uploaded backups are never touched.
  • **Databases**: whether the bound databases are included.

Restoring, Downloading, and Uploading

Any backup in the list can be restored from the panel. Before a restore starts, WolfPanel takes a safety backup of the current state; if a step fails, the site is rolled back from it automatically.

You can also download a backup to your computer, or upload a WolfPanel backup of the same site. Uploaded backups are verified before they appear in the list.
